The principles of preparation are interchangeable in court, field and racing sports. Unfortunately, at every level of netball, players fall into the same training & game preparation traps over and over.
This ebook cuts through the media hype and mixed up traditions to show you how to be fit, fast and fresh every game of the year. And in particular how to reach the Grand Final in good shape.
STEP 1 24 HOURS OUT CAN ZAP YOUR COMPETITIVE EDGE
It is game day and you are in good form, properly recovered from training and rearing to go but a ‘go slow’ formula is just around the corner.
All your hard work can be undone if your game preparation is neglected by...
In this next Step find out why sport’s drinks are not what they are cracked up to be. You may even like the hidden secret in one particular drink that will give you more game energy than a hydro power station.
STEP 2 WATER, SOFT DRINK OR SPORT’S DRINKS
Are you drinking the right stuff before, during and after each game?
I have been to hundreds and hundreds of cycling races and netball games and nearly everyone is drinking the wrong fluid in the wrong amounts at the wrong times including myself in years gone by.
You have to get your fluid intake right or your strength will be zapped despite how fit you are.
STEP 3 EATING BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER EXERCISE
Eating the right foods, for training and competition, is an easy recipe to follow but boy if you get it wrong your performance will take a nose dive. This next Step covers everything from carbo loading, feeling flat, hitting the wall and why diets are bad for you.
STEP 4 THE LOST ART OF WARMING UP
Traditional warm up practices for netball don’t work and can cost you the game. There is a better and more productive method to warm up for netball. The same as training you warm up the way the game is played.
Back to Contents
There are three primary reasons why warming up in recent times has become a lost art.
Warm ups are always the first to be ignored when late for training, which is natural as your mind is set on the enjoyment of the game not preparing for it.
However by not warming up an inherent danger lies ahead. Without warm ups and immediately sprinting from the umpire’s whistle there will be a low blood supply to the heart muscle. Yikes!
Don’t let your game fall apart from improper warm ups, as this can develop muscle fatigue. The muscles have not been given a chance to ‘engage’ and because of the intensity during a game start, your strength is compromised through lack of blood flow.
STEP 5 YOU HAVE ONE HOUR FOR EFFECTIVE RECOVERY
Why old school recovery works so much better than modern methods. Corporate companies are selling you recovery drinks and vitamins and minerals that don’t have an ounce of effect. We’ll cut through all the marketing hype and show you what does work a whole lot cheaper and quicker than commercial products.
Recovering from intense exercise is the opposite when preparing for training and competition. This makes sense as before exercise your muscles are saturated with oxygen and nutrients and after exercise your muscles are depleted and fatigued.
There are six quarters of netball. The first quarter of netball is warming up for intense competition.
The next four quarters are the game.
The sixth is recovery.
Look at the sixth quarter as preparation for your next training session or competition game.
STEP 6 HOW TO WIN THE GRAND FINAL
Winning is easy once you know how. No peaking or tapering necessary just knowing how to come into each game one after the other during the season.
All around the world you see winning teams beaten by a lesser skilled team in the grand final. Not just in netball but all sports.
Every year players go away totally perplexed why they didn’t reach the grand final or why their team didn’t win it.
The players were fit and skilled so what went wrong?
The answer is easy…
You have not been taught ‘how to win’
Academically the closest we can get in learning ‘how to win’ is through peaking. There are hundreds of articles and books on this subject, with their graphs and timelines, making understanding peaking so complex NASA’s computer system would go into melt down from the overload.
If the training is this complicated then something is amiss, and probably why it is said that peaking is an art form.
While we are going to talk about peaking for competition it really has little to do with winning a grand final. The team that wins the grand final, these players know what job they have to do.
Find out this very simple method that works in the Netball Preparation ebook...
